Hi everybody. I've just had my 385 hauled out today up here in Scotland and this will be the first time I have antifouled her myself.

Currently, she has Micron Extra on. I would like to keep her afloat for 24 months if possible and judging by the state of her hull after 18  months afloat without a lift, this looks feasible as there is very little fouling at all.

Does anybody know the area in square meters of the underside so I can work out how much I need. I tried using the International website calculator but I find it hard to believe their result! I must be doing something wrong.

Also, any recommendations for antifoul would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I use 3 x 1 US gallon (3.8 litres) cans on my 370. I apply it with a roller and get two full coats plus an extra coat on the high wear areas plus around the waterline.

Two full coats an an thrid on la waterline and the rudder.
With Micron Extra from International, my hull stay quite clean for one season from march to décember

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to go for about 5 litres to start and then buy another 2.5 as needed.

The amount of antifouling depends on:

1.  area where your bearth is,
2. Amount of sailing days and days in harbour
3. Temperature
4. Salt or lakewater

and so on.

With the same antifouling you can have good results in one area and in anther maybe bad results....

Try to find out how much you really need in the next years.

My boat is berthed in a big Lake called ijsselmeer in netherlands. I sail  aslo a lot on the north sea.
We use from the forst day micron extra
For the saildrive i use trilux

My results:

1st Year  5-6l mircon 2-3 layers following international, result no growth only some slime
2nd Year same, result the same
3rd Year 1-2 layers of antifouling, Result the same
4th year 1 layer, result the same
5th year 1 layer antifouling thinned with about 10% thinner, result the same
6th year 1 layer antifouling thinned with about 20% thinner, result the same
7th year 1 thin and fast painted layer of thinned antifouling, result... I will see next week and will report.

Today i need maximum 2,5l of antifouling each year.

But as i wrote; It depends on many things.....

I spend about 6 litres of International Micron EU on my 385 in Norway, giving her one coating only each year.
The boat is on the water all time. Taking her up yearly, its only some slime on the hull, easy to remove.
