I want to fit a Bimini to my 385 for next season, is the Hanse supplied one from their shop a good quality one, does it have the ability to fold away when not required, is this quick and simple to do if so. Has anyone a better solution to recommend as an alternative. Thanks.

Hello Bluesky,

the design and especially the quality of the factory supplied bimini is poor. Luckily I saw this at a boat show. It does not cover the helm positions but interferes with your body nevertheless making steering the boat uncomfortable. Furthermore the yard is far away for you, if something does not fit.

I would go for a solution of a reputable manufacturer near to you, discuss the design details ( i.e. handles, windows, height below boom .... ) and have him install the whole set. Specify Sunbrella(r) as fabric, this will ensure a longer life and have a cover made when it is folded away.  For a 385 I would use at least 30 mm stainless tubes and overlap it with the sprayhood. I have detachable sides and do not need a boat cover over the cockpit.

Thanks for the quick response and advice, I will look for a local firm, my only concern is matching the colour to the original Hanse chart.

Don't worry all fabric manufacturers have a range of Colors, even the cheapo one Hanse sells.
