Hi,

My home harbour, Norra Hamn, Helsingborg, recently 're-branded' as Marina Norra Hamnen, has just joined this service:

http://dockspot.com/book/

We are under Sweden, West Coast.

So, you can all sign in and visit our beautiful town next time you pass through the Sound.

Hi Franko
It must be the cultural differences which makes Dock Spot exist.
I do not like the concept.
The advantage to sail as the wind blows, makes you have new experiences.
If you're booking a harbor space in advance, you end up just to start the engine earlier.

Why are there so many harbor spaces which stands as the occupied in the Swedish ports?

Do you know the "frihavnsordningen"?
There you can get away with paying only environmental tax and the use of power. There are both German, Danish, Norwegian and Swedish ports.

H8jer

You know I absolutely agree with you. I doubt I will ever use the DockSpot service myself.

Cultural differences? I dunno, I think someone just had a business idea.

Around the UK where I used to do my sailing it is common to call ahead on the VHF or telephone to book a place and you are usually told which berth to take. That makes sense to me in ever more crowded marinas.

You ask "Why are there so many harbor spaces which stands as the occupied in the Swedish ports?"

Do you mean that empty berths are 'red-signed' as occupied? If so I can assure you it is very common in Denmark too. I think it is a combination of lazyness, forgetfulness and stupidity. I sometimes forget to turn my sign to green when I sail away from my harbour. When I remember I then call the harbour or a friend to get them to turn the sign around.

We all want to find a spot when we visit 'foreign' harbours so we should offer the same courtesy to visitors in our home harbours.  (Didn't I post about this last year? I must take a look.)

Last year in Denmark there was a German guy going round a marina turning signs (three I think it was) to red as his friends were arriving with their boats later that evening. That is a bit cheeky. But then they also reserve the picnic tables and loungers around hotel swimming pools don't they?

Must be a result of living in an overcrowded land.

Do you know the story of the Bouncing Bomb?

There is always a third way to fit boats in a full harbor.

Hydra island harbor :

Hi Franco

Good to hear you have the same view on dockport.
It was also a funny video.
About the post you gave a link to, it look like you wrote it the same day I was at an Island "endelave" 25 sm away.

Did we pass each other on the 19. july when we went  south though Lillebælt and you heading north?

Possibly,

On 18th June we sailed from Middelfart to Houhavn.

Hi Franko

If you look at date you posted this:

Then you was in Middelfart on the 18 july.
And If you went to Hou the next day, we must have passed on the way...

Have you any track log for that day?
