SSS Base Value STIX Value AVS For a Hanse 470 standard keel, We are entering the Triangle Race a double handed race from Torquay to Kinsale then to Treguier then back to Torquay a 620 mile race and need the information above. They could've been involved in the London Boat show of course. I've two owners next to me on the hard I'll ask the question when I next see them.

Practical Boat Owner did a five-page article on the Hanse story which included them in the 2014 ARC event of which eleven Hanses took part, the 470 was the top performer finishing third in class. Of course, it doesn't say whether the owners like others, were using it to cross the Atlantic in company or had competition in mind.
So another source may be is the organisers of the ARC event.

Mike, there's an article dated 25th January 2009 on this forum that may answer all your queries I've copied it below:-
Sounds like fun!!
Well if it is of any help the AVS of a 470 taking in to consideration top weights of 32kgs for roller reefing headsail and 7.5kgs for Radar on first spreaders and CBD of 0.75cm (estimated my me while boat was out of the water as Hanse couldn't help at the time so that isn't a builder exact number) is 119.7 which gives a final category of Cat 2 under the MCA stability allocation. On STOPS it rates 45.14, 50.61 and 58.08 for numerals 1 thru 3 respectively On SSS (which is referenced in table 3) the 470 rates 45.2. Note Cat 1 base value is now 35. On the STIX, the normal keel rates 41-38.3, so again you shouldn't have an issue considering Cat A minimum is 32. Finally, on AVS the min for Cat A min is circa 106 so 119.7 should be fine. But to be honest I have looked at the new IRC form and can't see anything much different to previous years, except the sponsor? If you need any of those measurements I have them. Regards B |
