The garage is big enough to hold an AB9.6AL (aluminum bottom) with the bow tubes partially deflated. I know of people who have gotten bigger boats in there, but fully deflated. It takes me a few seconds to inflate the tubes and be ready to launch. With the dinghy inside, I can stand in the garage and there is room for some spare gas/diesel as well as the cleaning supplies in sheet bags as you saw. There is also a stern ladder attached to the swim platform that can be flipped the other way against the cockpit deck for getting down to the dinghy. We have 2 dogs that we need to walk a couple of times/day so we tend to use the ladder rather than open the cockpit floor all the time. The dogs can be lifted off the deck and onto the swim platform easily. See pictures... |

Hi Black Diamond
I like your solution and the boat. I am currently looking at some options on new and used and the 575 comes to mind as there are some used out there and it has the dinghy garage. I have two questions, because i cant find details online. 1) how large is the garage? 2) how do one actually reach the bathing platform. somehow i cant find a picture on how thats done. Opening the helm platform and blocking the way to use the stairs inside the garage doesnt seem to be a real option. Thanks Roland

There was not a davitt option on the 545. I looked into the matter but concluded that the garage was more than enough. We use about 10 minutt launching our 3.1 meter dingy. It is defalted and stored in the garage, and leaves lots of room for the outboard and other water toys.

Thanks Black Diamond for your suggestions. In the meantime we reduced our project to the Hanse 508, which wasn't out when we were looking at the 548. Sometimes less is more, because the 508 offers more or less everything, too. Second thoughts were also "why do I need a garage, if I can throw a dinghy of 13 kg singlehanded from deck into the water?" So we will store it on the middeck ("sunbed deck") as we did on the 470. We're sailors and don't need any sunbed cushions for god's sake. Of course we will have a close look at the lazarette of the 508 and the storage possibilites at Dusseldorf. I like your bags on the side, they are a good idea. I just hope the opening to the lazarette is big enough to get into it without doing some yoga wrenches.

Agree on most points... the 548 is obviously different than our 575, but some experiences:

I definitely agree..
There are many reasons actually for NOT to buy the davids... 1) They are not strong enough to hold a boat which is big enough to use on Hanse 548. 2) They are not practical. The placement ( under the helmsman seats ) is really horrible .. You would not want all its equipment to be under your feet when you are at the stern. 3) They occupy space, in the dingy garage and make it rather small place... I would rather deflate or half deflate the dingy ( if needed depending on its size ) and keep it in the garage rather than worrying about the stern when sailing in rough seas or manouvering for the pantoon. Because I thought it was unpractical, I did not buy them... If you bought the option ( electrical inflator ) for your boat, it also helps you deflate the boat as well if your boat is not fitting the Dingy Garage. Sounds more practical rather than watching my stern ... This is my humble opinion.. |

Has anyone ever seen or tested how the dinghy garage with the new 548 works? The davits solution Hanse offers looks fine but is unpractical for the Med as you have to moor stern to the pier.
