I am the owner of 531 #65 and I belive that the factory should develop
an anchor fiting with a gas strand similar to that  fited on the new 540
for our boats and market it to us 531 owners.
If you have the same interest  send your e-mail to  the factory

Dear fellows

I have modified the anchor roller to be fixed and brought a 45 kilos WASI anchor and 100 mts 10 mm chain as the supplied lewmar anchor is too small to keep the yacht secured on a storm.

Keep in mind that 531/540 models offer a lot of windage.

The anchor windlass will be also changed soon for something more powerful.

We also have set an anchor sail we set on the backstay to ease yawning. That works.

We are using a kiwi anchor weight and we are happy..... it works as well

In a long passage you can get the anchor out of the roller catapult by hand to improve planning.

Roller weight is not an issue, but anchor and chain weight can be an issue boosting pitching pounding motoring in a swell.

I have also replaced my anchor on my 540, though I wanted to be still be able to use the folding anchor arm.

It was hard to find a better and heavier anchor would still fit.  The 540 comes with a 25kg Delta anchor.  A 32kg Delta anchor fits just into the anchor locker but needs some minor modifications to allow the anchor to be pinned into place.

However I wanted a better anchor than the delta and research Manson Supreme, Sarca and Rocna anchors to see what would fit.  The
I ended up with a Rocna 33kg anchor and am needing to cut a bit off the end of the folding arm and move the very roller in a bit, which meant having some stainless steel plate weld on to the arm to support the repositioned roller.

Sarca and Mason Supreme anchors 35-36kg anchors did not fit and their next smallest anchors 25-27kg anchors were unlikely to fit because of either the length of the shank or the height.

Ideally I wanted a 40kg anchor as recommended by Rocna but it would not fit.
Regards Richard

Here are some pictures of my Rocna 33kg anchor on my Hanse 540.  I wanted one of the new generation anchors and only the Rocna would fit on my folding arm in anything over a 30kg anchor.

I have used the anchor extensively on a trip to Queensland (Great Barrier Reef) over a 3 month period and have been very happy how securely it holds Moksha in ever condition I had encountered so far.  I did not feel secure with my 25kg delta anchor.

The picture below shows my new Muir windlass installed in line with the chain and also the stainless steel strengthened brass roller.  I had to upgrade the windlass due to racing rules here in Australia requiring 13mm chain.  The original Lewmar windlass could not be upgraded from 10mm to 13mm chain.

I had to slightly modify the arm to accommodate the Rocna Anchor by having a couple of extra pieces of stainless steel to allow a new hole for the pin in the anchor.

The anchor just fits in the anchor locker.
I have also installed a slide to push the anchor chain forward as it drops into the anchor well as have been suggested by many others on this forum.

Regards Richard

Dear Richard

I do agree with you . The 25 Kg delta anchor is not enough for the displacement and windage of the 531/540.

I have fitted a 45 kg wasi (see picture) with 70 meters duplex 7887 anchor chain also from Wasi.

I have also brougth a kiwi anchor ryder,,,it works. 12 kg at the end of the chain catenary when you need it.

I didnt like the foldable anchor system. So I changed it fort something more classical.

I have fitted a fixed twin anchor catapult plus a separate code zero roller furler plus a SS bowsprit. (see picture)

The bowsprit has been shot before installing a Harken 130 mm block to tack the baloon spinaker fore forward to bow edge to avoid tangling with the selftaking jib.

The code zero SS furler showed is detachable with a wichard cleat so the sail and the line plus furler can be completeley removed to allow the big baloon deployment free of tangling and friction.

As Richards I dont recommend anyone with a serious cruising program to keep the original 25 Delta. This anchor is suitable for 15 tonnne boats up to 48 feet. Read the Delta brochure.

Dear Richard

I have found a better picture with the block in place before bolting in.

Just in case somebody would like to fit a bowsprit without damaging the aestetics of the 531/540 original bow.

Guys,

Just posting a link to the Rocna bow compatibility section, which has a number of Hanse entries now (thanks mostly to forum members, including Richard!). Photos and fit info for the Rocna anchor.
