![]() Topic: Engine Hours CounterPosted: 01 January 2009 at 19:37 |

Hi All.
Volvo 2030D, 2002. About two years ago the LCD engine hours counter on the tachometer stopped working after occasionally fading. Volvo mechanics told me this was a common problem and a replacement tachometer was about £300 and the hours would start at zero on the new unit. The photos show a Volvo engine hours counter connected to the alternator, so it only counts when the engine is running. The meter came as part of a kit (the wiring and connectors of the kit were not used) costing £135 inc VAT and carriage. I think the benefits of the installation are: 1. Easier to view (no need to get down on your knees at the steering wheel). 2. Easier to calculate fuel duration since it's by the Nav table. 3. Having no hours counter is bad for maintenance. As you can see some varnish came off as I removed the tape through which the hole cutter passed. Has anyone got a tip for touching up the varnish? Regards Mike |

note the positive is connected to the rightmost of the top two terminals and is the red lead with the blue collar. |

Mike,
Go the same problem; no display. It seems that the chip can be replaced by yourself. There is en equivalent, although I don't have the number with me. Regarding the varnish, I would get myself Epifanish lack (sold in the Netherlands), flint it with 600 paper and follow the instructions on of the varnish. Alternatively, you can consider to spray varnish, however I don't know if that is available. Good luck, Gregor |
