The gauge on my Hanse 411 is not reading correctly. Suddenly jumps to empty or full randomly. Can I replace the sensor in the tank. I am having trouble unscrewing it. Where can I get a new sensor if I need one ?

Hi Serefe,

The senders are usually in the top of the tank opening and can be replaced as a whole unit. Any good quality ship chandlers or marine electronics store should be able to sell you the item.

The other cause may be a loose fuse holder in the circuit which the gauge is on. In my 411 the courtesy light and instrument panel are powered separately from the main supply so that you can turn the light on (the one just to starboard inside the companionway) and the tank gauges can be used with the main power turned off. You might want to have a look at that before you spend money on a new tank sender.

Hope it all works out,

Chris

Sorry, meant to say also that you can find the fuse (about a 3 amp in an inline fuse holder) coming from the positive terminal in your house battery.

Hi,

i had to take a look at mine because with a full tank , this never showed up on gauge.

under bunk rear port cabin, is the diesel stainless steel tank,
on the top you'll see a stainless steel disc with about 8 bolts/screws can't remember,

CAREFULLY unscrew or unbolt these 8 WITHOUT breaking the black SIKA joint under disc (otherwise, you'll have to redo and sh*tty job to do!).

underside the disc you'll find the sender , a bit like the floater in WC wter tank.
