I have had a lot of problems with Simrad instruments. We have always got a nice support from Simrad and the dealer in Sweden. Got new AIS, IS20 3 pc and a new GPS antenna.
Sometimes the GB40 lives its own life, restarts it self, makes 90 degrees turn by it self, 10 min. responstime etc. Simrad and the the Swedish dealer suggest to uppgrade the computer with a new harddisk and new software. After the upgrade we will have a Simrad NSO, the latest chartplotter from Simrad. Someone with experince from upgrading or NSO?

Hi Stephan,
I was just on the Hanseboat fair in Hamburg and talked to the Simrad guys about the same "own Life" of my GB 40 as you explained. They provide me also to pick up the upgrade on the hardware, as well as on the Software side. They gave me a price of aprx. 2000€!

The only thing I know is, that they exchange Windows to Linux!! That's the only good new Information!!!

I'll inform you more, if any I get any news!

Alltime a hand's breadth
best regards

Bjoern

Hi,
This happened also to me! It is caused by huge information transfer from AIS to the plotter when a lot of ships are in range.

Solution: put a filter in the GB40 to only show dangerous ships.
There will be a huge improvement and all the above problems resolved.

The (software) filter can be accessed from setup->system->AIS

Hi and thanks for response.

Sailkoop: I dont know the difference between Windows and Linux but I have been promised that NSO is a lot more userfriendly than GB40 and thats very important to me. ( With my iphone I can do almost everything) Mabye I dont have to ask my daughters and son in law to help me to push the buttoms anymore.
I have sent my computer to Holland for an upgrade and hope for the best. Will share my experience on the forum asap. Not paid yet but the price I got was much better.
Panos: Im sure you are right, but I think thats only one part of the problem. Around Stockholm we have about 30.000 islands and not 30.000 ships like I think you have in Ahtens.
