Hi All,

The start switch on my Type B engine panel (3YM20) has become intermittent, it appears to be temperature dependent, failing at cold (which is not very cold given the boat lives in Sydney, maybe 5 C to 10 C early morning), but still working after running the engine for some the.  I have wired a push button in parallel with the appropriate terminals and so far so good. Hidden in the side locker adjacent to the panel.

Has anyone had this problem? Till recently it came good on the second or third try. Now it has become a more regular issue, I think I will have to wire up a toggle off/on switch as well, in case it fails as well.

I suspect the switch will only be available attached to a panel.

Mine seems to need some inward pressure on the key to make certain it always works.

Thanks Martin & Rene - I will try pushing in while turning to see if that helps, but the hidden toggle switch is now wired in just in case. While there is a manual stop switch behind the air filter on the 3YM20, there seems to be no manual access to the start relay on the back of the starter motor, and in any case it is well buried.

I note that my stop button has been known to fail, but as there is no problem with letting the engine idle for a few minutes, the hassle of going below to shut down the engine is acceptable.
