The light on the switch panel indicating water level is now permanently illuminated in the red and yellow sections. is it the indicator or is it the sensor? Any ideas?

Most likely it is the crappy cheapo camping car sensor Hanse puts into the fresh water tank.
It is a 0 - 180 Ohm sensor. You can test ist with a resistance 90 Ohm, the meter should show 50%.
Luckily there are a range of reliable drop in interchangeable magnetic sensors from Wema or the TGW model from Phiippi.
