Has anyone found a solar panel to fit the hatch space on the 400 that produces more than 50W?
I fitted a 50W panel 2 years back. It was slightly undersized for the available area, but was the best fit I could find at the time. That panel has now died and I'm on the hunt to find a panel with a higher output that will still fit. I've even looked at combinations of panels but still can't beat 50W. The relatively square space of 82x73cm doesn't accommodate any 60W plus panels I've found. Thanks Mark Ps: Note to Hanse, please make the hatch garage the right size and shape for at least 100W panel when designing boats! |

Found this rather perfect match rated at 114W:
I used Tec7 to glue it to the hatch cover only, leaving the fastening screws available so that the panel will detach with the hatch cover. Cable routing on Hanse 400 (2010 facelift model): I ran the cable through the little gap between the hatch cover and the sprayhood support ridge and drilled the hole in the support ridge on the inside of the sprayhood (where it’s normally dry.) Interior cable routing: After lots of pondering and searching - this was my solution for hidden cable routing: I opened up the ceiling covers both in the main head and the port side in the saloon. (Picked open the little white covers and unscrewed the screws. In the head - the side without screws is velcroed.) In the saloon I was unable to fully remove the ceiling plate - but could get the job done by leaving it attatched in the “head-end” and hanging the other end with a rope. After removing the head ceiling you have full access to the interior of the sprayhood support ridge! The difficult part was getting the cables from the switchboard compartment and into the saloon ceiling. I did this by prying open the little ceiling panel above the front port side locker (velcroed) and pushed the cables up by taping them to the existing cables running from there to the mast. (Pulling them all the way to the mast was too difficult - but after opening the saloon ceiling panel I could pull them into the ceiling. From there, extending the cable to the head and connecting to the solar panel under the sprayhood support ridge was easy. Also - pushing the cables from above the port side locker to the switchboard compartment and then down to the regulator in the space below was easy. Hope this will be of help!
