Has anyone made cushions for the helm seats?    I've seen pictures of ones with back rests, with thigh supports, etc.   Before I have some made,  I'd like to see what other people have done.

Is there an internet provider who has done a nice job?  Or should I just go to my local guy and have it done for a bit more money?

My impression is that they need to attach in some way such that when the boat heels they won't slide off.  Again, ideas from other designs appreciated.

Rick,

We have not had cushions made but did see a 575 which had cushions on the top of the rope locker lids and cushions/padding on the bimini frame so you could sit on the rope locker on the high side whilst sailing and lean back against the bimini frame. The owners thought this was great and they could still reach the wheel. We normally put a ball fender just inside the aft hand rail (pushpit) so we can sit "side saddle" on the rope locker lid and lean back on the ball fender. We do this so we can keep a lookout whilst travelling on autopilot.

Hi, we have removable helm cushions, these are held in place with two piece clips that have the bases glued to the fibreglass with 3M double sided mastic/tape. There is one fitting on the stern and two on the front of the seat.
You can screw the base plate in, but so far we haven't found it necessary to do so and the 4 inches of foam is very comfortable. If I can find the packet of spare clips I will let you know the brand, but these were the same that hanse supplied with our cockpit seats
All the best
Paul

Hi Rick
Further to my earlier post the clips are called Perfix and we got them from www.perfix.nl not expensive for a packet of 20 and they came in about a week.
All the best

Thanks!     we actually have the light grey cockpit cushions as well (see picture).     We wanted to add the helm cushions but they do need to be secure...

Something simple is fine, probably much firmer pad than what is in the Hanse cushions, but that works..

Hi Rick I would agree that the Perfix clips don't look that strong, but they have lasted three years so we are quite happy with them.
