    Posted: 11 October 2010 at 19:11
Hello,

Has anybody extended their genoa tracks forward from the original location?

If you have I would certainly like to hear your experience? I got from Hanse a drawing of deck reinforcement for 371 but can I really trust that aluminium plates are where the drawing shows. I would need almost two meters additional tracks and I'm also wondering would it work just to continue the tracks from the current ending point and still make adjustable traveller to work throughout the track. Any experience on that, anybody?

I'm considering this upgrade to be able to use 108% jib (actually it will be a hybrid sail which can be rolled in from 108% jib to be self tacker) instead of a standard self tacker. The problem I have is that in 2005 model Hanse Yard has shorten the track so much that it's way too short for any jib or even for the reefed genoa. The sheet angle can't get adjusted right.

Hi Markku,

I was thinking the same with my 312.

It proved to be too difficult and costly so solution has been using st-jib on high winds and most of the time 140% genoa which can be rolled in significantly.

It is an old post but I wander what was you sollution? Extent or fix an extra rail?

And did you find the aluminium were the drawing said it would be?

My solution was to instal additional sheet track forward from the existing track. I used Harken midsize series that is heavier than original genoa track and made it so long that it works well going downwind jib sheet adjusted in front, also if sail is reefed. At the same time I started to use 108% size jib supported with code zero in light and open winds. Jib of that size works better than self tailing jib and With this combination genoa is hardly needed. The existing genoa track is used for code zero when sailed tight wind angles. There are aluminium supports inside the deck that I used. I also installed sheet car adjuster wich is very useful to have optimum sheet position.

Thank you for your answer.

Is it possible to make a picture and put it in this post as a reply? Just to see how your new track is mounted.

Last question, from which year is your 371?

Have fun,

Frank

Frank

Can you send me your personal mail? I can reply with few photos. This is because I have challenges to get photos shrinked to acceptable upload size.

I managed to get photos in smaller size, so I'm sharing them here for all. Frank was asking is there aluminium support inside the deck this area. Yes there is, it continuos to some distance to front and in the back at least to the main winches where I installed clamcleat to adjust the sheet vang, note it can be used also with the back winch. I did check the location of aluminium in my boat with a metal detector before selecting the length and location of the sheet track. You should do the same because Hanse has made changes in all models all the time. Our boat is from 2015, one of the lastest of this series.

Threads can be made quite easily in aluminium, although it takes time. The sheet track can be bend to boat curve shape while it's being fasten, so prebend is not needed, but don't mess up with Sika Wink. If you decided to do this and start using jib consult your sailmaker to get right dimensions for the sheet track. Any other questions just ask.
