Hello guys, did anyone re-tensioned lower shrouds? I noticed my lower shrouds on leeward side become loose and freely swinging even in moderate heel.
What's the method you are using to adjust the tension and not to overtension?

Yes, I did.
By feeling and testing.
Two turns each side, going sailing and check again, and so on.
Made 6 turns, which was too much, went back to 4 turns from MY ORIGINAL ,which does not say anything about yours.
Seems to be fine. Made more than 2000 miles after adjusting, all is good.

Cheers HanaFe

I had the same question a month back and asked my rigger.  I am a beginner here; however, he asserted that the lower shrouds take most of the load and the right questions are: (1) how tight are the lower and upper shrouds on the windward side, and, (2) what shape does the mast take?  The mast should, I assume be straight, port to starboard.

I'm a beginner here, too, but I recon your rigger is right - under sail most of the bending force is where lower shrouds attach to the mast.
Also a valid point one friend has given me is that with furling mast it is very important that lower shrouds are tight at almost any heel as this will prevent the mast from bending sideways and potentially bending the inside furler inviting sail jam.
Will tighten them up next time.
