Has anyone replaced the gas lift spring struts that hold the engine access hatch open (including the stairs). Mine have failed and will no longer support the weight of the hatch.
If so, can you recommend a supplier, model no etc or provide the specification.

Thanks,

the gas springs are standard (at least in Europe) and available through the machine or car spare parts shops. I had several times to replace such springs (for my car hoods and for old boat boom-vang) and had no problems. I went with the old part to the shop and got the new one out of the shelve).

Thanks Panos,

I have already tried this at one auto parts outlet, but it seems the range of gas springs is so great that some data on the load capacity is needed, to get the right selection.

I will try a few more outlets.

I have now found replacement struts from a marine/auto parts supplier. Before doing so, I checked what Hanse has installed in the latest 400 models. To my surprise the newer boats have struts rated at 600 Newtons, not 400 Newtons (as was installed in my boat -2008 model).

The nearest I could get was 534 Newtons (120 lbs force), which has solved my problem.

Our highly advanced 461 has the technologically advanced system of 2 rubber bungee cords which strap to the ceiling and we then hook around the handrail on each side.

Gas struts?!

Assuming the engine cover / stairway is probably about the same size and weight on the 400 as the 461, can anyone take some photos showing how the struts are attached at each end and I can buy fittings / struts to take the job of the bungee cords?

Thanks.
