The standard rubbing strakes on our Hanse 371 from 2005, that are made of plastic, are in pretty bad shape after more than 10 years of use (UV from the sun, poles, launching etc.).

We are looking for a better and more powerful solution.

Friends of us with Hanse boats have mounted a teak / stainless steel strip but we would like to have something made of rubber.

Have been in contact with the main Swedish boat shops (Hjertmans, SeaSea, Viking, Erlandssons, Watski etc.) but they mainly have plastic options.

Searched on both www.hanseklubben.se and www.myhanse.com forums for ideas.

Please share if you have any proposals.

Hello Westcoast

Your rubbing strake probably comprises a plastic track into which the rubber 'fender' section slides. As a matter of interest we replaced ours on our previous H312 with brand new identical parts, though we could only purchase them from the dealer (UK).

A well timed topic discussion for me as I just removed my rubbing strake a few days ago in connection with painting my hull sides.      Mine is beat up so I was hoping to find the identical part to replace it with.    I have the plastic track with the rubber fender section slides as Scotchmist described and Westcoast showed in his picture (although mine is black as I have a dark blue hull).

Scotchmist, did you have a particular contact person with the UK dealer that assisted you in getting replacement parts?     Do you know which company manufactures them?     My boat is in the USA so I am hoping to try to track it down.

Thank you.

Hello Jon

I cant recall who in particular I dealt with at The UK dealer (and in any event personnel there have changed a bit over the years) but I'm very confident that if you contact them, your message will reasonably quickly get to the right person.

As to branding - there was no manufacturers name on the product I'm afraid.

You can buy these profiles at www.svb.de

The prettier alternative would be a teak rubbing strake with stainless steel stripes. Hanse uses this for their upmarket product lines.

Thanks for your replies!

SVB seems to have a number of options, will look into them.

We have bought anti-fouling from SVB earlier years   :-)

Have ordered samples of these rub rails, will come back when we have tested them.

Available in white, grey and black. Different sizes as well...

As follow up to my post above, I wanted to share that I was able to get new rub rail parts which were identical to  what was originally installed on my 2002 Hanse 371.     The Hanse team in Griefswald had the parts in stock and they shipped them to me.

The original rub rails are of very poor quality so to buy the same again was not an option.

We bought the fender list RADIAL from TESSILMARE.

You can get it in white, grey or black. There is a number of sizes available.

It took in total some 40-50 hours to remove the old rub rails and the old Sikaflex, to mount the lower insert and the rub rail and to replace all Sikaflex with Illbruck/Tremco SP054. At the same time we also replaced the Sikaflex under the toerail.

A friend of ours with a Hanse 341 did the same update last year.

We are both very satisfied with the product, it looks very nice as is solid.

I now need to fix the rub rail on my 371. Instead of fixing the the old one I am considering replacing them with something better. @Westcoast: are you happy with the Tessilmare Radial?
  • I assume you used the 40mm profile
  • The Radial profile is not symmetric: "Track and Soft Profile have to be mounted with the longer lips downward (to adhere in beating to the joining step of the hull with the deck) to conform to the hull to deck joint." Which way did you install the profile?
  • You write "replace all Sikaflex with Illbruck/Tremco SP054". Instead of screwing did you use Illbruck/Tremco SP054 for fastening the profile instead of screws?
