I have hanse 540e (2007) with yanmar 4jh4 htbe - shaft drive.
Last year (may 2014) I want to replaced shaft sealing because  of the leakage (1l/h). Dissembling shaft we have a lot of problems because of the corroded rubber coupling and the thrust - push bearing. I have to replace the whole centa system to be able to replace vetus shaft seal.
This is double seal with special grease injected. At first it worked well, only a few drips. But in next 100 hours it starded driping again. It looks like it start driping after grease is used.
Now after 300 hours i have again rate of .5-1h/h.

Any similar experinces? Do you refill grease? Anyone using other dripless shaft seal system (PSS) ?

Thanks. I recently discovered issue more in details and it looks like that Vetus recommend adding silicon grease every 100-200 hours. It looks like maintenance free for 100 hours :)

Unfortunately, the same :( In the Med there are only two types of wind; no wind and wind on the nose :(

Hi

Look at this web side:

at picture 12 you see where to grease once a year, the rest is how to install.

Hello,
We have also the PSS shaft seal system. In our 545#268 2010 Very good system and no maintanance at all.
The sealing is a carbon grafite flange on the shaft cooled whit seawater who is pushing to SS rotor by a nitrile bellow fixit on the stern shaft tube.
In earlier 540 topic's there are som treads on this issiue about the many problems with leaks and vibration.
I believe Hanse change the whole shaft line by building the 545 in 2010, but it seems that Jörg have this already in one
of the latest build 2009 (nr 252) 540 our build number is 268
