The 29th Annual Pittwater to Coffs Offshore race series has just been completed and the results posted, congratulations to Moksha and Freya for their great results. Results and photos can be viewed at www.pittwatertocoffs.com.au, had the pleasure of watching the Hanse's on a windward beat north from Coffs Harbour whilst sitting on Charlesworth Bay Headland and have to say that seeing the big orange hull of Moksha slicing up the coast was a site to behold!!! Well done all crews.

We had a great race to Coffs coming in 20th out 61 yachts that competed in total across all the divisions. The 226nm took us 28 hours 39 minutes to complete. We were the longest and by far the heaviest yacht. We were more in cruising mode than race mode not bothering to reduce our weight. For example we had 100m of 13mm chain in the bow.
It was a close race with yachts all around us the whole time. Basically we finished behind the Farr 40s and in front of the Sydney 38's and 39s - all race boats with crew on the rail for the whole race. Some of the crew from the other yachts sat on the rail for 24 hours. Our crew spent the whole of 20 minutes trying to see how the rest of the crews spent their time.
We ended up wining the PHS Division 1 and the PHS Divison overall for the Sydney Coffs race and also a couple other trophies for the the combined race results. 4 trophies was more than we deserved.
We also had a great trip back from Coffs Harbour to Sydney with winds up to 35 knots with a few 40 knot gusts. We decided to see how far we could hold our gennaker in the slowly building breeze to see what would happen if we were caught out in unexpected winds. Moksha helm started to loose control over 25 knots of wind with the large rolly seas not helping. We surfed some waves to over 14 knots of boat speed with a steady boat speed of 11 knots.
Here are a couple of pictures of Moksha (orange hull). The first one is approaching the start line of the short distance afternoon race at Coffs. The second one is some of our cheery crew on the rail.

Hi Richard, was talking to one of the owners of B52 (Sydney 41) at the Coffs Harbour Yacht Club on Friday and he was 'gob smacked' at how well you guys performed. He said that he could not believe it when they arrived in Coffs and you guys were already there, enjoying yourselves. I dont think he, like a lot of others, are aware of the all round capabilities of the Hanses. As I said in our post, my wife and I watched you overtaking the fleet on the first leg of the around south solitary race and watched with interest as you headed out to sea while the rest went north. Congratulations on how well you did in the series.

We were very lucky with the wind and lumpy sea conditions. We had a stiff breeze 15 to 25 knots somewhere between 70 and 120 degrees true all the way, meaning our water line length came into play with us average at least somewhere between 8 and 9.5 knots all the way. The smaller boats bounced around a fair bit in the big slabs of swell that came through, which would have slowed them down and made them wet. If the wind was further aft we would have been much further back in the field as all the lighter boats take off under spinnaker. We were lucky that the wind did not allow the other yachts to use a spinnaker for anything but an occasional short distance. We only have a gennaker and often get left behind with the other yachts flying spinnakers more squarely than we can can.
If the wind was more on the nose we would have been a bit further down the line of finishes.

First of all well done, thats a tough race and not one I would take lightly but I am confused and I hope you can clariy this for me. According to the web site for the race they have given the line honours details and it clearly shows that Moksha finished 45 minutes behind B52! So his comments must have concerened another yacht. Is this an error on the part of the race organisors?
