HI all, we have a 385 2016 model with the Volvo 40 hp and I am considering upgrading to a 3 blade to replace the Gori 2 blade. Has anybody done this as an upgrade, or had one delivered ex factory and able to advise on the brand and size of the 3 blade?
There seems to be some magic with prop selection and mostly I get to hear sad tales of failures. I am looking to achieve a smoother more balanced drive with a slight improvement in performance. Am I likely to achieve this by upgrading this way or am I off the mark with this one. Martin

Is your Giri 2 blade folding? I had this with the standard engine and was always happy with performance. From memory I got at least 6kts at 2,000rpm with an average 1.8l/hr over six seasons.
I'm not sure that the larger engine will actually deliver any better speeds without significant increase in consumption so I'd be interested in your current boat speed / engine speed / consumption profile.

This was what Flexofold recommended for us with the D2-40;
With a VP D2-40 ( max. rated 38 hp / 3200 rpm, gear reduction ratio 1:2,20 ) we would recommend a 3-blade 17x11-3L propeller for your Hanse 385. We have noticed a significant improvement in sailing speeds, so much so it's difficult to know how much is the prop or whether we have just got better at the other stuff but we definitely sail at lest 1 kt faster than we used to. Power handling is at least as good as before and motoring economy around 1.8l/hr at 1800-2000 revs (and around 6-6.5Kts on flat water) so same as S&J on the original. Definitely no regrets about the upgrade.
