Hi, We have a Facno furler for the foresail. The plastic top cap has been pulled off the foil, probably becasue the sail has stretched and too enthusiastic use of the winch when raising the sail. The wire above the foil to the mast has also started to shread. Is this a common problem
? I'm considering scrapping the system and going back to a forestay and hanks on the sail; it might be old fashioned but at least its fool proof and wont leave you with a sail you either cant raise / lower or unfurl. Does anyone have any similar experience?

Hi Peter,
Yes I had a similar problem, so I replaced the forstay and did away with the doughnut at the top of the furler. I then fitted a halyard deflector on the mast. I still have the Facnor furler and everything has worked well since. I hope this is of help.
Richard
p.s.I have also designed and made a mast dropping gantry for any electrical or staying maintainance. So if you need to drop your mast email me.

Richard, thanks for this and also for offer of gantry details. We're based at Port Solent so for time being would use they're kit for mast drops.
Re the furler this looks like a good solution and keeps adavantages of furling sails
