I know that many people have had issues with dodgy fuel guage readings. I have just added 45 litres to my own tank which was reading 47% but now reads 98%! I'm not too bothered as long as I know about the error in the readings and as long as those errors are consistent.
My question is when viewing the tank from under the floor, what should 100% full look like? I have an early 385 with the 3 pipes exiting the forward facing side of the tank about 2 cms from the outer top. Should the fuel be below these outlets when full or should it be filled right up? Thanks. |

My guess is that you still have the cheapo automotive level sensor. These things work in cars, but are prone to get stuck in a maritime environment. They might or might not show the real level. Mine showed for months 100%
I replaced it by a Philippi TG sensor, it is drop in interchangeablewith a adapter ring. Do not overfill the tank ! The cover with the three outlets is not 100% dieseltight. I found this out when I relied on the autostop of the pistol. I had later about 1 ltr of Diesel below the tank Now I only fill up my tank to 95%.

The cover on my tank is just a screw down plastic inspection hatch. The 3 pipes come out of the side of the tank, near the top on the forward facing side

I have had the same question at the first refueling!
The explanation is this: indicator 0-100% measurement in liters. (45 liters equals about 45%). I verified. it's right. above 100 liters should always remain at 100% until there are less than 100 liters. I have not tried this. I now have inside 90 liters and marks correct (90-93 liters /%) |

Interesting, but that's not how mine reads. Mine showed 47% but I had about 115 litres left. I know because I could see it and also because it took just 45 litres to take us to 100%!

I am still not completely clear how these 385 fuel gauges work. Mine shows 100% until it is 50% (i.e. aprox. 80 litres and from then on is more or less accurate.
I keep records manually as I don't want to trust it too much. Phil O

I have the same on my H345 which I'm assuming is the same componentry. We are currently reading 97% fuel. We had a full fuel tank at the beginning of the season and have run the engine so far this year for about 30 hours with no more fuel added. I'm sure we have used more than 3%! The water tank also gives dodgy readings and to make matters worse when the water is low it locks on this reading and you can't flick to the other gauges. I was advised to press and hold the return key to overcome but nothing happens. Any one got any ideas on this. Sorry I hope this is not too far off thread.

Welcome to the crappy sensor club! On my 345 I have replaced the camping car fresh water tank sensor with a inductive Philippi TGW sensor. I had the same problem with the cheapo mechanical fuel tank sensor. It read 88% at the beginning of the season and still showed since one week 75% after 35 motor hours. It simply was stuck !
I have now replaced the fuel tank sensor as well with a 200 mm Philippi inductive sensor TGT. With an Adapter flange (also from Philipi )this is drop in interchangeable. BTW I have also installed a Philippi TCM tank Monitor and disabled all the tank functions on the Würth Panel. Definitely more trustworthy than the Würth Display

Hi Fendant, Sounds like a winter project. Can you give me some more details on how you went about switching to the Philippi equipment please.

I too would like more details of refitting these new gauges. Always reading 100% is definitely not informative!
