HI everyone,

just thought I would share a couple of things I have found with our 2014 MODEL 415 after almost 6 months of use albeit  using it for relaxing and not racing as I have my Etchells for that aspect of my sailing fun.

The floor boards were very squeaky and using advice from dealers handyman I obtained some wax from local hardware store and after  easily unscrewing several of the floorboards I simply rubbed the wax on the edges and bindo after reinstalling the floorboards noise has gone.

I initially purchased a block of cherry wood timber to hide my TV wires but then decided that I should try and match the mast support and had a very capable stainless steel expert to make up a section of tubing which has a flange welded where it attaches to the ceiling and a curve were the wires head off to back of the TV. I think that it looks far better than wooden "covers" I have seen fitted to other boats as it blends in with mast support.

I had a radar unit installed in Sydney when I purchased the boat and about a month after we sailed it home to Southport in Qld the radar would not come on until about 90 minutes after plotter was started-with excellent support form B & G help desk they believed it was an ethernet cable issue as they have seen it happen before and when the local B & G specialist called his first remark when he opened the switchboard cabinet is that he though he seen my trouble-the cables had been wound up into a loop and very fine cable ties had been used to hold the cable in place which he didnt like as he though it would be better to use larger cable ties and not pull them tight as the internal wires can be sensitive also he though the the coiling of the cable had been done too close to the attachment point and may have created a kink too close to the attachment point- whatever it was , he simply fitted a new cable and it worked instantly.

HI again everyone,

- in previous post yesterday I forgot to cover our experiences so far- on the way home to Southport we struck a squall with one reef in the main at the time and running downhill-pleasantly surprised at how well our boat handled the conditions as we quickly got our selves organised (me on helm and other two other crew at the mast) started the motor, discussed and then re-discussed what we were each going to do, and then got our ropes all ready, crew cautiously forward and holding on, then  headed the boat to wind and dropped the main and applied lashings over the main to keep it in place, then headed back before the wind under motor for about 30 minutes until we were comfortable that the worst was behind us and as a precaution only set jib for an hour or so before resuming with main.

At the time we were running with a breeze with strength of around  15-20 knots which increased rapidly to a little over 40 knots when the squall hit us, heavy and cold rain and all- quick glance at the plotter boat speed and  showing 12.1knots however actual boat speed would have been in vicinity of 14 knots as we were off Solitary Islands north of Coffs at the time and running into the east coast current. I was expecting a big broach when I rounded the boat head to wind, but all went as well as it could and my mates got the main down and in place in very bouncy conditions.

WE have the secondary fridge in our boat and very pleasantly surprised how well it works- far colder than the main fridge and on its coldest setting sometimes water bottles start to freeze. I would not hesitate in installing one if I were ordering a new boat.

Overall after almost 6 months of use, we remain very, very impressed with the 415-I have been sailing (mainly racing for around 50 years) although we did have an Adams 11.9 for almost 10 years that we used almost every weekend for leisure purposes together with annual holidays travelling to either port stephens orf lake Macquarie. I hired the boat moulds and laboured with a boat builder to build the Adams and whilst that was back in 1987 I did learn a lot that helps me to potter round on the 415  and also the odd repair on my Etchells!. I guess that some of the matters raised on this forum also reflect on our backgrounds and it is pleasing to note the contribution to help one another.

Greetings!  Glad to see that you are enjoying your 415. We met very, very briefly at Southport in September but unfortunately I couldnt make it back to chat more, as the boat I was doing a delivery with was ready to depart.
