This is precisely how it is implemented in the production 588 series!

That’s cool Gordon. I might have to make myself one of those assuming you haven’t got a patent on it ;)

I’ve got a cockpit storage bag, which is great for smaller items but I still end up using the rope bins for water bottles and stuff, which isn’t ideal

Matt,
No patent, note that there is a vertical plate behind the VHF to clip onto. I used a piece of 1mm carbon fibre plate, and calculate that Breathe is 0.0001 knot faster due to the use of carbon.

If I made another one I would move the drink bottles sideways a bit and try to find a spot for sun glasses..

Lots of great ideas for me to copy!
Matt, I have spent a while trying to work out the best way to have the companionway hatch open to different positions.  Did you attach additional bolts to the top rail of the slide?

[Edit] Just had another look at your photo of the pull for the overhead slide and can't see any external bolt, but I can see what looks like a spring button.  Has Hanse changed the mechanism on this since the "5" series?

Also like your tablet chartplotter.  I'm hoping to do this with a Raspberry Pi integrated into the NMEA via wifi and a smallish touch screen.  The Pi can do so much that I'm hoping it will replace the laptop I currently use for emails and streaming entertainment.

Stuart - not sure what system was on the "5" series, apologies I can't comment
I just drilled some extra holes in each of the side rails at the height I wanted. As standard you could have the washboards fully closed / fully open or half open and I found you could get rain coming in on the half open setting when trying to vent the boat. On the "8" series the top of the top washboard has a sliding bolt lock each side that locates in the relevant hole position (if that makes sense!) so can create more options just by drilling additional holes in the side rails

My 458 came with two sets of holes on the vertical hatch rails. The first leaves it only open about an inch. The second is about halfway. The bolts are sliders - not spring-loaded.

I used magnetic latches on small stainless dinghy rigging plates from chandlers for mine, see attached post: https://www.myhanse.com/doors-and-frames-that-hit-each-other_topic10226.html

Works really well and matches in with main cabin door magnet latches ex factory.

I also leave had door latched open when not using the boat.

Matt,

Nicely done, but that boat is way to tidy, no wonder stuff moves around!
