It is now a year since 'Abenaki' was launched and I will report the good and the not so good - but no bad!!

We have  made 78 safe departures and safe arrivals with plenty of berthing practice, we have no bow thruster at present but have not needed one as the boat handles well in harbour.

Our voyages have mostly been short trips along the South West Coast of the UK shortest 8Nm and longest 43Nm a total of 1200Nm

Good things - Nothing has broken, all electrics have worked 100% Simrad instruments and Garmin plotter, very easy to sail short handed just my wife Gill as crew on most sailings (or it may be me that is the crew and she is in charge). we have really enjoyed our 1st year on our 1st boat.

Not so good - We have put up with the standard stretchy halyards especially the jib, in anything over 18kts wind across the deck you have to re-tighten the jib every 15 minutes I will spend some money over the winter on new dyneema halyards and sheets. you can't lock the cabin from inside without making modifications, after 10 months the pipe on the high pressure side of the fresh water pump came off 'NO CLIP FITTED' and we had about 150lts of water to bail out, you have to feel below the pump to check the connection on the tee where it connects to the feed pipe to the heads and galley. Lose Mast / boom goose neck connection we had to have a new mast section fitted as the rivets & screws became loose.

Very Good - Our relationship with Liberty Yachts the Hanse UK dealer in Plymouth always quick to help and positive in their actions. Goose neck fitting replaced within a week.

Terry

Sorry to hear that you have issues with your 430 anything serious  or just little  annoying issues that don't go away.

Just a small pointer, we had to reject a 430e last year due to many issues, meaning that Hanse had to exchange the yacht for another boat after a very stressful 2 months and at great cost to me.

The foam core was saturated after just 12 months in the water, the mast step structure was inadequate due to a failed epoxy packer and mast post within the main cabin (we lost a mast after just 6 months), many areas of pad damage had ocurred due to transportation and some areas of delamination had taken place between the inner and outer skins. We were shocked to learn that core samples showed only a 3-5mm thick outer skin to the hull.

I feel very lucky to have spotted these items by having the boat fully surveyed before the warranty had expired and would suggest that all new owners should do this as a matter of course.

We rounded Cape Horn last sunday after one and half year and 14000 milles on Uhambo. We are now in Ushuaïa. Pictures will follow.

Perhaps the comments in this post show the differences that there appear to be in the consistency of the quality of construction.

17 months in our engine room vent fan expired. Not a quality control issue just suspect quality of sub contract supplier parts. I will see how long the new unit lasts.

1 of the IS20 wind instruments keeps losing its pointer and you have to press very hard in the middle to get it to refit. Evidently this has been a common simrad problem. Again this is not a Hanse build issue.

We have just found 2 small 8mm holes in the panel where the cockpit curves in to the companion way, these are probably air pockets that have recently been leaned on. So up to now this is only our 2nd Hanse build quality issue. The clip failure on the water pipe being the 1st.

Even our stretchy Jib halyard has stopped stretching!!
