Hi guys and girls. I have a new problem that I haven’t yet seen. I haven’t had time to thoroughly troubleshoot it what with Helene and Milton visiting. Thought I would solicit some troubleshooting ideas before I get back to look into it.

The right side of the AC panel just decided to stop working one day while I was on the boat prepping for one of the hurricanes. The only thing that I had been using electrically was the winch while I was taking down the jib. I had AC’s on inside and then at some point I noticed that they all went off. I was connected to shore power and everything else on the boat works electrically. I tried the usual - checking and resetting the main breaker in the port lazarette for the shore power and both breakers on the AC panel. No luck. With the AC breakers on the panel I can see that I have 240v on the meter. The left side of the panel has power. Tried pulling shore power and resting the pedestal breakers and , again, no luck. I have not yet checked the fuses at the main bus bar. I have also not pulled the AC panel.

Any ideas?

The right side is the one that turns on high loads and works only from shore power (not inverter if factory installed). The left side turns on loads both from inverter and shore power. The system recognizes if it is powered from inverter or plugged into shore power via relay which is at the back side of the ac panel. It is clearly maked on the wiring diagram. If resetting all circiut breakers does not help, it might be the relay problem. Not sure how many high loads you get (AC, waterheater, so on) , but you can also move some of them from the right switches to empty left ones, just make sure that fuses ratings are the same.

Thanks, Marcella. Yes, it is a factory install and I have a MasterVolt Mass Combi inverter/charger not a Victron. I will see if I can check that relay on the back of the panel.

Actually guys, that relay does not exist! The Aircon load side is activated only by the “shore / generator” selector switch. When it is in the center “zero” position, only the left side house circuits will be powered by the inverter. When in either of the other two positions, it will feed both sides of the panel. So, not sure why you have this problem.

Question, does the problem exist with the generator providing power?

Also, I wouldn’t recommend moving any of the right side circuits to the left. They are all very high current and would overload your inverter and your batteries, so not even a short term solution.

I pulled up my notes about it, relay 3K1 on the electrical diagram, there was a discussion "Air Conditioner from inverter" on the 575/578 forum around 2021. My 458 inititally had whole right column off, not sure why, maybe that relay was 110V rated but I made all the tests in Greifswald  and burned it down right away. A year later I tried to look at where is that relay but it was hard to see. Fortunately, my only problem was the water heater, and I had to move its switch to the left column. It's rated 800W and I have 3kW Mastervolt inverter, should be fine. For AC one needs to be careful. I installed 3 AC units separately, and they dont utilize the Hanse panel, so my right column is still off.Ouch

3K1 is a relay, but it’s function is not as you think. It is there to interrupt power to the water heater unless shore power or generator is present. This to prevent excess load on the batteries and inverter. Normally the heating element is 1500 watts which will draw well over 100 amps continuous from the house bank until the water reaches high temp cut off.
