Hello,

Does anyone know the size of the alternator on a Volvo d3 110 from 2011, I am changing the house bank to litium and need to know the size so that I can install one or two Victron Omni for protection.

Cheers

Seileren1,

The alternator on our 2014 D3 is 200amp although the Hanse brochure states 150amp. On the alternator it is rated at 200amp.

Thank you Wayne, I wonder if mine may be smaler since its a few years older. Did you upgrade youre housebank to litium and if you did, do you use a dc dc charger like the Victron Orion as a protection of the alternator?

Cheers

I changed to Lithium batteries in 2019 and at that stage the Victron dealer suggested fitting a BMS 12/200 to the system which reduces the output of the alternator to about 100 amp. The BMS recently failed and I fitted one of the new Smart BMS 12/200. The Victron Lithium batteries I fitted do not have a internal BMS so that is why I fitted an external BMS. The alternator seems to run fine at the reduced output. I had one alternator fail in about 2016 and another in 2021. So I now keep a spare onboard. I think the DC to DC charger for the engine start battery is a good option.
