My boat was pulled for the stern thruster installation and I happen to notice that the anodes on the stern all have an air gap on them.  They aren't loose but are quite tightly attached but there is a space.   Is that normal?  I though they would be against the hull.

Marc,

They are normally "on" the hull on a steel or ALI hull and of course are on metal like the saildrive or saildrive prop. But on a FG hull the don't need to be flush with the hull. The more surface of the anode exposed to the water the better. Ours is actually on the hull but I don't think it will make any difference- there may be slightly more water resistance when the boat is moving but so small you probably couldn't measure it. You should however remove the label on the anode. Again more surface area the better.
