When sailing in Scandinavian waters you could have bad luck regarding the water temperature so we will rent a bareboat in Croatia.

This is our first time in the country as such and wonder if anyone have tips where to sail for a week starting from Split?
We don't want to pay for luxary harbours that cost 50-70 euro per night.

Do we have some tips of nice bays and small villages near Split?

Hi.
I have been to Croatia once but not for sailing, we took the car.
If you want to see a beautiful island, you have to see Brac. One day it has a long sandy beach and a day after you can´t see the sand.
If i´m right you may pay even if you are in a natural harbor.

I have plans to go there and sail för a week this summer (end of august).

Rogoznica is a large inlet with a small town inside the bay on a penisula.
Do not go to the Very expensive marina, but go to the other side of the pernisula. You can go bows to where the dingies are tied up because the sea bed drops away quickly. If you see a tender called "Panos" your there.

A good staring point for a week cruise. You have a lot of options, from a posh turist old towns to lonely bays.Trogir is intersting old town near Split - nice to see. Further to W there are little island Drvenik, also MAslinica on W side of Šolta, but majority of cruisers follow milk run through Splitska vrata btween Šolta & Brać (Milna - hint).20 miles to S is Hvar with posh old town Hvar (uncomfortable moorings) with beautifull archipelago Pakleni otoki infront. On the N side Stari Grad is more unspoiled by tourism.Further 20 miles (approx) to S Vis is one of the largest remote croatian island. I preffer Komiža (old fisherman's town) over more open Vis. Nearby Biševo with coves. If you like sailing longer legs you can reach Korčula or even my favorite croatian island Lastovo. Cruising ground in Croatia offer a lot of culinary delights, based on sea food.
Marina's price tag is around €40-€50 for 40footer/day. Anchorages €15-€20.
When cruising Croatia you can expect one of the most beautiful sea, bays, islands and isolated anchorages. But also expect sometime pricey marinas, paid anchorages and sometime "not so friendly" locals :)

But depends on the season and you attitude&expectations

Thanks for the detailed tips which is exactly what I need, name on lovely spots and bays.
When we have sailed in Greece we have been able to find small places with 1-2 restaurants  on the beach ( in the North Sporades and in the Ionian). I am convinced that it is possible to find similar places in Crotia and tips can enable those dreams.

Half of the fun is to search and dream about the coming bareboat holiday.

Hi,
I had been sailing in Croatia for 10 years, but I left the Croatian waters 2005 because of the bad policy of the Croatian Government for sailors. (Prices and bureauscracy).
But I still think the best guide for sailors in Croatia was ( and still is) the annually published Port and Anchorplace guide: "Kroatien, Slowenien, Montenegro - 777 Häfen an Buchten" Unfortunately only in German. I think you will find nearly any anchorplace and port, worth to be visited with maps, plans and description. For more info, please write a pm.
Greetings

Thanks for the hint about "777 ports", I bought it on the Yacht exhibition 2 weeks ago, it is brilliant with very detailed descriptions.
Cheers,

Between Brac and Hvar is a little island called Scedro. The smaller of the two bays on the Northern side, Manastir, has a tiny Konoba (grill) which I can recommed. You have until 6pm to order your fish, and if you do, they will go and catch it. They also have 3 free buoys.

Also, if you look at Trogir, you will see that all the boats and yards are on the Western side of the bridge. BUT, with a little care you can negotiate the shallow area to the East and drop a hook in about 3.5 mtrs. Then dingy ashore to look around this very interesting town. Dropping the hook is free there, so that is two nights sorted.
Have a great time, we were in Croatia for 3 years, but are moving to the Ionian this year enroute to Turkey in 2 years time.

Hello Skipper, we chartered a Hanse 400 in Croatia in 2008 and spent about 6 weeks sailing there. It was brilliant. We did blogs of our trip where you will be able to see photos and descriptions of the area. A point of reference for you is http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/Croatia/Dalmatia/Trogir/blog-266791.html

and from there you will be able to access other blogs for other areas of the croatian coast we visited. We used the 777 book all the time and it is excellent.

Have a great time

Hey Skipper,

We have sailing for 4 months in Croatia in 2005 and 1 month in 2011.It is in our opinion one of the must beautiful aereas in the Med.for sailing in protected waters.
Unfortunaly I must agree with Old Finn about the government, the transitlog and marinas(ACI) are very expensive and at some places(they call it Marine parks?) the obligation to mooring on a official mooring, even on your one anchor, the ask very high prices without any service.
The croatian people are not  always the must friendly of the Med. but have must of the time EURO's in there eyes when they see a foreign yacht.
