Thanks,
Seems my only choice is to upgrade to v/h 60 and waste another 1000 euro on B&G

Hi,
Yes I tried everything following the pairing routine many times, but with no luck. I have not contacted B&G yet, since I’m currently sailing in the Adriatics. I have a “Standard Horizon” backup VHF installed that I’m using. I will let you know if I don’t need the cradle anymore, which is very likely.

ok, that would be great. I'm tempted to try to take mine apart to see if i can figure out how it failed, but i would like to have the charging functionality back (with the added switch) |

Yes, we've tried to reconnect to the base station. Also tried hard reset of the handheld (with needle thru the tiny hole at the back of the handheld). Nothing worked.
Today our dealer called me with good news: they've found a brand new handset without cradle, a result of a broken cradle replacement on another boat. They shipped the handheld unit so I hope to test it during the weekend. Fingers crossed!!

We are now experiencing similar H50 to V50 connection issues. I happen to have a second H50 handset and neither one will connect to the V50 base unit. Apparently, the connection was lost yesterday while the system was active after it started off working normally. I’ve tried re-pairing both handsets multiple times without success. At this point, I’m tempted to try resetting the V50 base unit, but am concerned about erasing configuration information that I don’t know enough about to safely do a reset.
Any advice would be most appreciated.

Hi Bill,
Can't help you, I'm afraid. We got a new handset shipped by our dealer, without cradle since the unit was a left-over from a broken cradle replacement. Could pair this handset using standard pairing instructions per the manual, so in our case indeed the wifi connection unit in the handset was broken. Since apparently in most cases the wifi unit of the handset break down, I'd expect that functioning base units H50 will become available once people replace both for the model 60. Henk

Thank you all for your responses. Since my post, I have contacted B&G and they recommended the following 3 steps be undertaken to remedy the problem, in this order:
1. De-register (or un-pair) any H50 handsets that had been previously registered to the V50, then re-register the H50 handset(s) 2. Reset the V50 (MMSI information is not erased, by the way), then re-register the H50 handset(s) 3. Upgrade to the latest V50 software version (v2.91) then re-register the H50 handset(s) The first recommendation worked in our case, so the V50/H50 system is now back and operating normally. If none of their 3 recommendations had worked, B&G’s final option was for us to purchase a new V60/H60 system, which I hope will not necessary for several more years. Hope this helps. I failed to mention that while initially attempting to re-register the H50 handset, I first checked to see if it was registered. It did not show up as being registered, so I performed the procedure to register it, which failed to work. According to B&G, there is a state where the system hangs even though the display shows that there are no registered handsets. That was why they recommended that I go through the process to de-register (or un-pair) the handset to first to intentionally clear what had been previously registered.
Once again, I hope this helps someone avoid the problem that we encountered. Bill P SV Reach 2016 Hanse 455 |
