I intend to transfer my 630 to the Med soon, and thus will need to install a bimini. Can anybody give me advice on this? Particularly I am interested in a construction that is only little visible when not in use...

Welcome to the club of Bimini designers.
We are trying to find a practical, protective and good locking solution for over 3 years.
No such luck til now!

We just have a tent that we hung under the boom when not sailing. We have improved it to the point that we can deploy it in just a few minutes, but that's all.

Hello

That my solutions removing the original spray hood keeping stainless structure and using the backstay

The folding is very easy everything goes in the original spay hood grove in front of the companionway in a few second.

The only inconvenient binini his embossing on aft part gradually with the wind but acceptable till 15 knots

Regards

 Jörg

Thanks for the responses.

I know that Wendel & Rados of Greifswald (next to the Hanse shipyard) do Biminis for the 630. Do you/does anybody have any experience with their version?

Hi,

I saw what they are producing while living there for 20 days waiting for my 630 to be finished by W&R. They also fitted a stereo system and did a lot of changes for me. They are very careful and know their job - but they are veeeery expensive.

What W&R produces is not fit for the Med since it is fully enclosed. For one third of the price you can have one build in Greece to protect you from sun and the occasional summer rain.

It will not loock slick and racing and the boat will look like a charter boat, but for sure it will loock better than the north pole version by Wendel und Rados.

Once you decide on the design everything is easier.

Yes have installed two biminis by W&R , one aft over the helm. That one folds back against the backstay. Then the forward one that sits on slides on the side of the spray hood. That one we slide forward and fold in front of the spray hood , when not in use. Works pretty good, not totally estetic when folded, since the frame is quite visible on the sides. But still thinks it is the best option there is.
