How much does the bottom of the Hanse  312 flex when it stands on it's
keel.

The boat is quite flat bottomed, and the stringers on the bottom
are basically cut off at all the intersections.

Does it need to 'hang' a little in the aft and front supports
or can the keel and the bottom take the complete weight, when the boat
is standing on the ground.

The manual says that,
"If the yacht is to stand on the keel over a long period of time, forward and after quarters have to be supported efficiently in order to relieve the structure."
What does that mean in practice ?

What kind of cradles have You been using ?

What kind of cradle does Hanse provide ? Does it's front and aft supports offload the keel ?

What is Your experience in this matter ?

Mike

Dont know the answer for sure.

I have spoken to an owner who regularly dries out at scrubbing posts - therefore all weight on the keel (a 311). he hasnt reported a problem. Also commonly you will see 311/2s standing on keel but with props all round to stop it toppling over.

My 312 always stands on the keel with four supporting stands to provide the boat from falling aside (not very tight!). all the weight of the boat is on the keel. in greifswald the boats are hanging in huge trays during the assembling. One of the last steps is than the mounting of the keel which is than also hanging under the boat. But that is just for assembling!!! The regular winter storage at Yachtzentrum Greifswald is the same I described above. I heard just once of a Bavaria 32 with problems with that. I m shure Ralph can give us some more information about that.

Regards Thomas.

Thats right, Thomas,
that was the reason for a long legal disput with bavaria and its dealer, but at the end I was enabled to order a Hanse.

Duo to this experience I agreed with Hanse to do the following check whilst the acceptance. The 341 was craned out of the water in Greifswald and stand (nearly) completely on its keel. Then I checked if there are any hull problems or deformations. To make a long story short - there was nothing, no noises, no cracks, no buckling.

Now after sailing in rough conditions I know that the ship is really solid built and I know it was a good decision.

Hie

Compared with Bavaria and Gib'sea the Hanse hull is much more solid. compare the innerliner and you will see the difference. When hoisting

the two other boat types you can see the side of the hull shiver, Hanse doesn't do that. When they delivered our boat they placed it with all its weight on the keel - no problem and it stayed like that for the whole weekend.

But I would not hoist my boat on land for a longer period - a month or two during summer and let it just rest on the keel. The heat could give some problem.
