Is there any problem with the installing of the SPX 5 ?

Where do you place   the course computer ?
                                  the fluxegate compass

Which way is best too lead the cable ?

We have only been in our new boat 2 weeekends and I have not found the best way for draging cables around in the boat: Under the floor or beheind the beds ?

On our 341, the fluxgate compass is mounted in the locker below the holding tank, whilst the course computer is actually mounted in the main electrics panel.  The wiring goes down the port side of the boat in a trunking that runs just below the handrail level in the cabins.  If you look in the heads (toilet) from under the cupboards you may see sections where you can see the rest of the wiring.   Teh wiring then comes out into the back lockers.  Our electrical guy had long flexible rods which he could use to push down a string from the stern lockers so that he could then pull the wire through.

Hi. The Raymarien Wheel pilot spx 5 has been installed last week. I take some time, there are not much place or a way for cables !!  But I get along with it. I have aproved the pilot most for engine - it work perfekt.

We have now used the Raymarine SPX-5 wheel pilot on our Hanse 371 for four-five weeks this summer. I'm more than happy with it, it works really good.

Bought it from the US, the price was less than 8.000 SEK. A friend took it with him to Sweden...  Smile

I also was very happy.
I mounted the spx 5 on our 370 and it was doing very well.
In my holiday it failed / broke down.
The gear box jammed .Unhappy
It is now at the dealer for warranty and has to be repeared.
I hope it was just a unique issue and hope it will do well in the future because it wass doing very well on the boat and the response was very good.
greetings Marcel

These wheelpilots are suitable for boats to 7.5 tons.
With the weight of the 370 at 6.8 tons which is dry weight you have to add another 20 % for all the load you come to 7.2 tons the unit will almost always work on full load which it will not do for long.

I would reconsider this option

Hallo Copain
I informed before installing at holland Nautic , and the wheel pilot is absolutely suiteble for our boat.
That is because the boat steers so light , there is absolute no presure on the rudder and it can be steerd with onley two fingers.
The weight off a boat is a thing on it self , is it a heavy steering 7,5 ton old fashioned wine glas shape steel cutter or is it a modern boat like a Hanse
It all plays a roll on how a boat has to be steered, and I do not know much boats that steer as light as a hanse
Beside that , it worked well for almost a year.

Yes, I bought it for under 8.000 SEK, a friend brought it with him from the US.

Make the following Shopping Search on Google and you will find a number of alternatives:

If you try to order it with shipment from the US you probably have to pay swedish tax (moms).

Hi Flemming,
I am thinking about fitting a Raymarine SPX5 and wondered if you could answer your own questions for me now you have installed your pilot. How has it performed now you have had it for a season ? Many thanks Equinox.
