Dear forum friends!
Hanse 325/ Compass: Plastimo Olympic 135. Light bulb replacement. I have a Plastimo Olympic 135 Compass, and I am not quite sure how to open the black protection cap to be able to replace the light bulb.
Do I unscrew the whole compass (I guess so) and thereafter how do I get access to bulb exchange? Regards, Lars Solgård ![]() |

Hi Henrik. I think you misunderstood my question? I would exactly like to exchange the light bulbs but don't quite know how to get access to do so?

Lars,
I found the following on another forum. Hope it helps. "I have just changed the bulbs in my Plastimo compass - I think mine is an Olymic 135 looking the interweb: mine is the pedestal type with a three piece plastic cover that slides over the compass bit. To change the bulb you need to take off the plastic Plastimo screw covers and undo the two large screws either side on the pivot point of the hood assembly. You should then be able to remove this and see the small bulbs fixed inside the first hood section. You might need to remove the compass to get the the junction of the wires as the wires are soldered to the bulbs and you change the lot. I bought new bulbs in Marine Superstore in Port Solent - they had them in stock! Fairly easy job in fact. Good luck"

You may have to take off the chartplotter because the wires may be held in place by cable ties. They are on my boat so it would make it difficult to remove the compass very far. If you remove the chartplotter, your hands will easily fit inside the pod. The wires to my compass have spade connectors so I can then easily pull them apart. Then I can remove the compass with its bulb wires.
After you have changed the bulb with its new wires, remember to twist the wires around each other if they are not already twisted together and run them back around the compass cover. The reason for twisting wires is to prevent the electricity affecting the magnetic reading of the compass. Charles |
