I have a 2012 445 . I bought it in 2015 and it was a 4 cabin layout.
I immediately removed the wall and doors and now have a massive forward cabin.
Not having the island birth is better since nothing rolls off when heeling!

Really interested in this process, we would like to purchase a 445 but can only really afford the ex charter Croatia yachts however really need the full master suite in the bow.
Was it difficult to remove the bulkheads? Were they bonded to the headlining etc? Did you have any particular issues?

If you are buying an X charter be sure you have money spare to fix things as they break. Im not saying buying ex charter is a bad idea, you just need to know what you are getting in to. Buying an x charter 445 you really would want 10-15k in the bank spare for just in case money. Good luck :)

I was planning to take a trip to Croatia to look at ex-charter 455's this spring.  Sadly CV19 lockdown stopped that and then I got swept up (with nothing better to do as I was unable to get into the yard where my boat was kept for the winter) with the possibility of a new 458.

My take on ex-charter is that you might get a great deal if you don't mind having to tidy up some cosmetic issues.  Many charter boats are sold at 5 years old so they won't be too out of date.  The larger, reputable charter companies do tend to service and look after the boats well, but obviously having a large number of less experienced skippers and crew will lead to high wear and tear.  I have a friend who owns a 14m Beneteau/Bavaria on charter in Greece which he has to sell (or take out of charter) this year and I discussed the pros and cons of buying ex-charter with him.

[Edit: I have since seen my friend's ex-charter boat which he is now cruising months a year.  It is in amazing condition, although I think that he did a significant amount of work on reupholstery and tidying up.  They also converted from double forward cabins to single.  Based on this my doubts about buying ex-charter are somewhat alleviated.]

Good luck with your search.  The picture of the 445 with the double cabin partition removed does show what might be possible.

I’m sure your right about possible issues with ex charter yachts, but as has been said although abused they are also professionally maintained.

If we go down this route we will be wanting a very comprehensive survey carried out following extensive inspection by ourselves, particularly around keel fixings/rudder bearings in case of groundings.

We have a boat to sell first, so we will see how we get on....

I consider to convert the 2 bow cabins into one master cabin on my 445. Does anyone have any good tips or experiences that can be shared?

Hello Skorchio

Thanks for posting the cabin refit, have you any more photos, is it an easy task or is it more invloved.

I am quite handy, did the partitions come out clean etc.

A guiding email would be much appreciated.

All the best

Charlie
