Hi all,

We lifted Onelife out today to check on the state of the Coppercoat and I am very please to say that it appears to be working very well.  The colour is still mostly brown but there are a few signs of the copper oxide starting to show in places.  We had some Coral Worm growth on the propeller blades and on the rubber gaiter around the saildrive and some weed growth under the keel bulb where there is no coppercoat because the boat was sitting on blocks when treated originally.

So far so good....

Paul

We lifted out in October. Coppercoat has been on for two seasons, but we lift out for the winter each year. The keel had some slime, weed and barnacles, particularly on the lower surfaces of the bulb. The rudder was coated with slime and barnacles, particularly the lower half. Parts of the hull had some weed growth. I am therefore slightly disappointed with the performance of Coppercoat at this stage. For the most part it is now green in colour.

Peller Clean on the prop and saildrive kept those areas free of fouling.

As i said earlier i have done 2 of my boats with copper coatings
The one on the mooring has Copper Tec there are several boats of the same design on adjacent moorings & they are done in copper coat
It seems that Copper Tec has performed better than those boats as well as my Hanse

The River Medway where my yacht is moored, is particularly bad for fouling. All antifoulings seem to become coated with silt, with slime and weed following. The Coppercoat has so far not been any worse than other antifoulings. And it only requires a clean off at the end of each season.   If I was racing, I would wash off more frequently. After two seasons, perhaps it will be better next season. If it lasts ten years, it will have worked out cheaper than other antifoulings and far less labour each year.

No galvanic problems anywhere. The aluminium saildrive is coated with Seajet Peller Clean.

Bandy has had the same treatment over the last 2 weeks. First it was sandblasted to get rid of all the old antifouling.
after that coppercoat was sprayed in 5 layers with the followeing result:

It looks good, a neat and smooth surface

Bandy,

Make sure it is abraided before it's put back, this gives the copper particles chance to start oxidising thus work properly.

We keep an eye along the water line of ours and all's looking clean and crisp, so the poor Grey Mullet has had to find other feeding sites !
