Nereide,

What others say is true.  To gybe the asymetric you would normally pass the sail outside.  I think you can get it through the gap if wide enough.  On Hanses this is not the case for doing it reliably.

What we do is to douse the asymetric, gybe, and then fly up the other side.  Cowardly maybe but safer when short-handed.

In the picture I think is is rigged outside everything.  The problem is that the inactive sheet then dangles in the water and seems in danger of going under the boat.  We reached over and hooked it onto the pin to stop this happening.

Since the picture we only fly with one sheet attached.  It flys better without the non-active sheet pulling in the wrong direction.

I have a question about the halyard used for a cruising chute.  Are you all flying your cruising chutes from the masthead or running the halyard through one of the rings that is on the mast just above where the jib halyard exits the mast?  In other words, mast head or fractional?  Is there any reason not to run the cruising spinnaker to masthead?  Thanks.

Fractional. Use the rings at the top of the forestay to route the halyard down from the sheave at mast top. Fractional equates with published IJPE measurements. If running with masthead gennaker then I would make sure to get the sailmaker to measure himself, live, on the boat. I have burnt my fingers on this, thinking I was getting a big masthead genny, and ending up with a fractional.

Please, have a look at the "Asym Spinnaker/Fractional or Masthead?" topic in the Chitchat forum.

I have just got a gennaker for my 370 and need to install a halyard. I have seen the 2 rings above the forestay. Do you just run the gennaker halyard through one of them or should I attach a block for the halyard to one of the rings?

Steinar,
This is the same config on the 400 - the spin halyard will run out of the top of the mast and then down through the ring you describe. No blocks needed

Hi,
Just use the rings. Make sure the halyard is outside the jib forestay before hoisting. Also get the halyard 2-3 meters longer than perfect. During its life you will have to cut it several times at the gennaker end because of wear at the ring!
Happy sailingSmile

Hi

My halyard was cut already first season, ending with the shute in sea during a regatta. Not fun! After that, I installed  a block in the ring and have got no more trouble after. I recommend you all to do so.

Bjørn,

Which block did you install? Did you shackle it to the ring or attach it some other way? Any issues with it flopping around and/or fouling anything?

Cheers,
Doug

I was on the boat today to figure out how to run the tack line back to the cockpit. I did not find any obvious routes. On the 350 forum, it has bee suggested to use the jib sheet as the tack line. This seems to be OK if you are out cruising and have plenty of time, but is not an alternative for racing.

One possible run is straight back over the front deck, through the starboard opening under the self-tacker track, but I can't see how to get the line into the line channel that goes back to the cockpit. The tack line would hit some of the other halyards  or reefing lines and create friction. Other alternative would be to avoid the line channel and just continue on top of the deck, but then it would crash with the sprayhood..... Confused

Anyone with a good solution?
Steinar
