On our 508 the left tank gauge on the Philippi monitor suddenly showed 0%, although it should be 100%. Moving a bit the cables on the sensor and cleaning showed 100% for a few seconds and then went back to 0%. Is this an electrical or mechanical issue of the sensor?

Seeing that it jumps from 0% to 100% and back most likely means that there is an issue with your wires. In any case, I would recommend you replace these flimsy mechanical sensors and replace them with good quality Wema sensors. Contact Stuart Batman at Wema UK (sales@wema.co.uk). He is incredibly helpful and will sort you out. I replaced my diesel and water tank sensors and after spending some time calibrating I now am consistently less than 5 liters off when refueling.

After using some diesel from this tank, the gauge indicator was again correct (100%). The issue was probably an overfilling of the tank which caused a blockage of the lever on top. A further reason might have been the high temperatures (+30 C) which expand the diesel.  Anyway, "much ado about nothing." Thanks for the suggestions to use a more reliable sensor, but I don't feel like changing it, doing new cabeling and calibrating it. So far we had no issues for the last four years. When the water sensors were blocked, it was enough to knock on top of the tank and voilą ... ."Simplicity is the key to success"

The watertanksensors in our boat from  Philippi are original Barksdale TGW
They works fine since more than 14 years now.
Every few years a bit of Greek olive 🫒 oil on the sensor shaft will do the job.
Keep it simple!!🤪

We switched to sonic sensors and they are working perfectly.

As Hanse wasn't able to supply me with a new sensor (VDO 145) in reasonable time (+2 months)my electrician mounted a sensor of his choice which is working well. It looks simpler and might by more reliable.
