This thread is for information on the 370's electrical connections deduced by owners. The aim is to collectively build a full wiring diagram for the 370. First have a look at the spreadsheet of wiring runs produced by Hanse. Then on the info in this thread. Finally start tracing wires through the hull. Anything that you work out how it connects post it here. A diagram scanned and posted as a picture would be great too. We will consolidate this and, hopefully, be able to produce a full diagram to post at the end of this discussion. It would be especially useful if people who have the full extras installed by Hanse say how those are wired in. Then those adding their own options can reuse those spare wires left unconnected by Hanse rather than running in new ones. For example, how does the CD/Radio get its power? |

Dear Colin, Popeye and Silver Sailor We take delivery of our 370 (Hullabaloo) on 16 May. Very exciting. I will certainly try to contribute something useful to this thread once we have the fitted boat. I go down to Hamble today to see the hull and to dicuss electronics with the fitter. Wish us luck. Regards John Guy |

Good luck John. Looking forward to your help on this "project". A suggested high priority task is listing the location and purpose of all fuses. |

John, every boat has "problems." Keep them in perspective and
enjoy your great new Hanse. Don't hesitate to contact me with any
questions you or your fitter may have.

I sometimes feel that I give Hanse a bit of a bad time, using MyHanse to sort out all the bugs, and use little time to give Hanse credit. So here is my happy news on this thread .. three cheers to Hanse for printing the names of the wires on each individual cable .... much easier than decifering of colour codes (like on old cars)....and much easier than nothing at all (like on some modern cars). Tracing cables and finding deadends (like the constant supply for the CD/radio) or finding where they really end up is a "walk in the park".

I can totally-totally confirm that the switches on the electrical panel are circuit breakers. On close inspection of the rear of the switches I saw they have a moulded in value for the breaking current, varying between 3A, 5A and 10A as far as I could see. I have also now mounted by electrical panel with four magnets, and it's dead easy to remove, but still stable enough for rough seas. The main fix on mine (maybe others too) was to tighten up the position of the main incoming red cables (at the forward end of the panel) to avoid the bundle getting caught on the wooden fixing rail in the cabinet. I tightened it up using a couple of long cable-ties (strips / wraps) together with a massaging of the bundle to get it settled. |

Popeye, Thanks for that. It is a big relief. It also makes good sense. Hanse wouldn't let us down How do you cope with the doors to get the panel off? Mine won't get past the hinges or springs. Finally, I'm out on Hilde all next week. Will do as mush electrical tracing and diagramming as I can. Has anyone made a start on this so I'm not duplicating work already done. Yours hopefully ..... |

The switches definitely are circuit breakers. After reading this
thread I put them to the test and intentionally shorted out a
circuit. Sure enough, it "popped" and worked just as
expected. However, I don't believe that the numbers on the
panel's diagram refer to wire size. First, European
wire is sized differently. Second, the sizes on the diagram do
not corrolate to the sizes on the panel (at least when looking at
US wire sizes). Initially, I read them as amperage sizes, but the
numbers don't make sense. The mystery continues.

So this raises a question. If you install something should you use an inline fuse in the curcuit? My VHF radio was installed by my dealer with an inline fuse behind the panel and so hard to change in a hurry. When I install something should I do the same? Or should I take out that inline fuse and rely on the easier-to-change curcuit breaker? Nothing else I can see has an inline fuse too. Does anyone know a good marine electrician to ask? |

Ref. glass doors ref. magnets holding switch panel ... totally not a problem... switch panel can be removed with doors and all hinge hardware in situ. Technique is to take the panel out slightly at an angle (in top view the forward edge is nearer the boats centerline than the aft edge, tilted by around 30degrees). To pull it out I intially used my finger in the 12V power outlet hole, but have now added small strips of tape on the forward edge, like "pull here" tabs. If still stuck, or puzzled let me know, and I can try to take some fuzzy pictures. |
