That is beautiful. I love the story behind it and the connection to ancient times.

I think this thread needs an update.

Anyway, last weekend (a week ago) saw Emilia sailing on the lake Mälaren to spend two nights at anchor in the vicinity of the Swedish king's castle Drottningholm. Apart from just getting away for a while I also wanted to try the mainsail as it had be subjected to some changes. The sail is just a few years old and I have felt that it had a much too long leech, longer than the original sail that served Emilia for 15 year, and the problem being that the boom would come down too much in the cockpit when close hauled. I found this to be annoying enough to take it to the sail maker and have it altered.

The sail maker cut out an wedge that was 15 centimeters long in the aft end, thus making the leech 15 centimetres shorter.

I was also shown around the marina to take a look at one of the boats he races with. Those who have read recent posts in this thread know that Emilia is undergoing a project where I am fine sanding and polishing the bottom to make it as smooth as possible. The boat he showed me gave me some great inspiration for next years work on the bottom, which I plan to be the last year's work to finish this project.

Since I went out sailing one week ago I should have written this post a week ago but I accidentally left my computer at home so I could not work on my pictures.

Now, I am happy with what the small alteration of the main sail did to it. The feeling of the boom end intruding in the cockpit was gone. The weekend was grey, cold and humid and the winds were light but sailing was good. The first day offered the opportunity to check the main sail when tacking.

The next day was dedicated to rowing ashore and visit the gardens surrounding the castle.

I don't know if the king admired Emilia from one of his windows in the castle but I could admire my own boat from afar. (You have to look closely to spot her in the picture.)

The third day gave the same wind but since we were going in the other direction this gave me the opportunity to check the main going downwind and I was equally happy.

Looks like you had a nice sail Johan. I’m a bit envious of you as my boat is out of the water now for the winter. What made it worst today was I was down at Donaghadee looking out from the harbour and I could see Scotland, the Isle of Man and a yacht sailing up the North Channel.

Maybe it’s time to start planning next summer

Always a pleasure to read your posts Johan. Interesting as usual and accompanied by great photos. Thankyou - these dark days are lightened! I've only just returned to sailing BrightStar after a year's absence. The foresail (self tracking jib) sail cloth has delaminated (origin Elvstrom 2016); non-use won't have helped.
