I experienced a serious issue while manoeuvring my Hanse 460 into the berth. Regardless of the throttle lever position – forward, neutral, or reverse – the yacht maintained strong forward propulsion with no reverse thrust.

The setup:

Engine: Yanmar 80 HP with saildrive (3-blade Gori propeller)

Year: 2024

Engine control: electronic throttle/gear system, Yanmar VC20

Has anyone experienced a similar failure?

What could be the likely causes — electrical (control lever, wiring, solenoid), hydraulic, or mechanical (gearbox / saildrive)?

Any advice on diagnostic steps before haul-out?

Thank you,

Sergi

Hello, I hope you have solved the problem. I had a similar problem on my boat. There is an actuator under the bed in the left rear cabin. It was installed 3-5 cm back. It took me a long time to find this problem.🙋🏻

Hello, thank you. In my case the issue was that the throttle cable bracket had come loose. It had nothing to do with the electronics, just ordinary bolts. A faulty solenoid could also be a possible cause.

Same here. It was "just" a loose bolt but huge risk. I had a word or two with who commissioned the boat.

Hi guys, I'm in the process of installing (converting) my manual throttle to a VC20 system.

Would one of you 460 owners with VC20 be able to kindly upload a photo of where your shift actuator is located or describe its location?

Also I'm very interested where Hanse installs the helm and drive ECUs!

Any help would wonderfully appreciated! Thx. Wm.

Where specifically is the actuator - I am trying to install one with a VC20 upgrade and need to know the factory location. Also, to confirm left rear cabin is Port side? Thanks you!

Hi It is the port rear cabin and it's hard up against the centre line of the boat about midway back. It is under a narrow plywood top cover

Could anyone with the Yanmar Electronic Throttle option and a Yanmar 4JH engine tell what the part number is on their Drive ECU? Would like to confirm it's a 164200-10830. Many thanks
