Like many owners, the engine hours LCD on our Yanmar panel had failed some time ago. There are a few suggestions online as to how to fix this - some temporary and others a more permanent deep clean and resealing (but often failing again after a short period). I purchased a replacement LCD screen with attached ribbon wires from AK Speedo (http://www.akspeedo.com/vdo-lcd-repair.php) for £20 and it was a simple replacement with the cumulative engine hours remaining intact. A video demonstrating the replacement process from AK Speedo is here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IpqaKi7hY4. However, I think this shows replacing the LCD only whereas the unit they now supply comes with an integrated ribbon ready to slot in. It really was very straightforward - we'll see how long it stands up to the elements.

Hi,
was it easy to open the rpm gauge in order to get to the screen? Thanks

Yes, no problem if you follow the YouTube guide. Most difficult part was gently prising the old LCD screen off its sticky pad - too much pressure and you'll shatter it.
