My Volvo MD 2020 has now done over 3000 hours
So question is:-
How often does one replace engine mounts?

I asked a manufacturer of engine mounts at a boat show & the bloke just shrugged his shoulders & said " When they break!!"
Which is not that helpful when one is SH & needs to get into a north sea port in rough weather-- because that is when they will break, for sure

He said they last years -- But do they?

Sometimes. A buddy of mine has an identical 400e, one of his engine mounts went after 3 or 4 years but I've no issues with mine after 9 seasons....

If you're getting concerned, why not carry some spares so you can fix it easily if/when they do break...

Obviously a possible solution when far from ahome port. However, not a quick fix at sea.
I assume one would have to disconnect the saildrive to raise the engine meaning a haulout.
Or is there enough flex in the saildrive seal to allow the engine to be raised at the front whilst still attached

Yanmar 3J's seem to have a high failure rate of the original mounts judging by the amount of mentions on various forums. Replaced 2 of 3 of ours after about 8 years/550hrs/6000Nms or so. Not difficult to replace if you have spares. Studs can be welded if you don't.

Don't think you have to pull anything to replace one mount. Just need to use some leverage to hold the engine up to fit the mount underneath. A long heavy duty screw driver or something to act as a wedge...
