Hi All.
Last week, during the annual engine service on my 3 year old 371, the stainless steel water lock silencer to the engine exhaust was found to have corroded through. Please see the current issue of PBO (469, Jan 2006) page 87 for a technical explanation on how this can happen

The symptoms were:
1. A small amount of rust tainted water in the bilge behind the saildrive.
2. When starting the engine after a few weeks, the first few gushes of water from the exhaust were rust coloured.

The solution has been to replace the stainless steel unit with a plastic Vetus unit.

A carbon monoxide detector may be on the list for Santa this Christmas!!

Hope this is of help.
Mike
