I want to mount and extra scepter foot in each side. The purpose of this is to get the wire rail more wide so it does not "take up" space on the deck.
A scepter foot is mounted with a bolt in the middle. ![]() ![]() ![]() I must thus fasten the scepter foot by: 1) Drill a throughout hole and put a nut on the back. However, I can not get to do that due to inner shell and other accommodation. 2) or cut a tread in the piece of aluminum plate embedded in the decks approx. 2-3 cm below deck at the point where I want to place the scepter foot. However, I do not know the thickness of the aluminum plate. Thus, only solution 2 is in my opinion possible, but I´m in doubt if it´s OK to fasten the bolt only in the aluminum plate? Other ideas?

The task is done. As you can se at the attached pictures, this made a good difference in space on deck.

Good work. It is interesting how sometimes the little things can improve a situation. The yacht that used to be alongside us had its top guardrail fail through wear, because they tied their fenders to the top wire. I always leave my yacht with the fenders tied around the base of the stanchion and this also reduces the load on the stanchion base.

This is my practice too. Tie them on the guard wires for easy adjustment but move to stanchion base once settled.

Hi.
Did you use solution 2?
What size of thread should I expect to do? And how Deep? I am planning to add a opening in the middle of the railing where the backing plates are Places. |

Hi,
Yes, i used the solution 2? First i ordered the scepter foot and the scepter at boatoon.com. Then I measured the hole in the bottom of the scepter food. I can´t remember the size. (M8 or M10). I drilled the hole in the deck with a slightly smaller diameter until I reached the aluminum plate, and drilled about 10 mm further down trough the aluminium plate. Finally i did the thread. Be careful, when you make the tread into the aluminium plate. I hope you can use my reply. |
