Nothing was wrong with Flexofold really, we have a 30hp yanmar and wanted a 3 blade to compliment the engine, we went for a brunton which turned out to be the perfect choice, decreased fuel consumption, prop walk vanished, increased stability when motoring in rough conditions, overall improved boat crontrol and handling, all of this and it doesnt effect sailing speed.Clap

Hope it helps.

16*10 Flex-o-fold (2 blades) is bolt on with 355 and D1-20.

325 might be ok with slightly bigger prop as well. I would discuss with local sales agent about the details - they should be the pro's.

See http://www.flexofold.com/ to download excellent test on various props...

Ok, so the standard fixed 2 blade prop is 16X11.
Was recomended by one dealer to stick with 16X11 and another to go up to 16X13 becuse the Hanse was a easy load. How ever when I was going against the wind with the standard prop. the speed was decreasing noticeably. Thatīs indicating that I would need even more torque, right?

So going up in pitch would be a bad choice? Problem is I have a lack of experience since I just been on the virging trip from Greifswald to Sweden mostly by sail and wind from the rear...

Whatīs your experience?

Hi.
I havenīt noticed loss of speed when going against the wind.
You also have to consider the speed of the water. Most of the times you will have the water comming towards you when going against the wind.

I think my standard propeller is good. I donīt change before i really need it.
Do I drive in 3000 RPM my boatspeed is about 5,8 - 6.4 kn.

Hi Henrik!
3000 rpm is the top rev. for the VP D1-20 (18hp) 5.8-6.4 kn does not sound like a very impressive top speed... even as SOG. what is the max rev on your engine?
What is your march speed at say 2300-2400 rpm. ?

If there is enough torque then it could be an idea to go up in pitch to get te speed up or the revs down. But if there is a struggle keeping speed against the wind then this is not an option...

My max rpm is 4500 rpm, crusing is 2500-3000 rpm.
If I drive in 2300-2400 i have about 5-5.5 kn of speed.
My top speed is about 7,1 kn.
If i run at 2500-3000 rpm the fuel consumption is about 3l hour.
4000rm it is around 5-6l hour.

I have Yanmar 3ym20 (21hp)

Henrik...you definitely have a wrong prop since max RPM on a 3ym20 yanmar engine should be 3600...my current fixed 2 blade prop allows the engine to rev up to about 3500 while moving the boat in calm weather at about 7,2-7,3 kts SOW...4500 is way too much...you prop is probably too light...

Ok! Evidently the Yanmar is a completly different animal vs. the VP.
The drives have different gearing etc. so itīs hard to compare even if the hulls between 320 and 325 is simmilar.

Cheers!

I will try on sunday again, but I meet another 320 owner this summer, and it was the same for him.
The RPM display goes up to 5000 rpm.

I for sure have alot of barnacles on my prop now but will try anyway.

I once had some severe barnacle layer on top of my prop...I couldn't push the boat any faster than 4,5 kts while it was vibrating like a production crushed stone coarse screen...

I can't believe the 3ym20 can rev up to 5000...with that kind of RPM the pistons could probably outrun the valves and eventually hit and bend them...I think it could be just the incorrect tach reading...otherwise it really looks like a mirracle for me...
