Hi all, decided to replace the 3rd set of 2 115Ah AGM's wit 400Ah LiFePo's. Sourced the 3.2V cells in Poland, the BMS's and battery monitor/coulomb meter by AliExpress, the 2kW pure sinus inverter also in Poland and other small pieces locally.
The whole set fits exactly in the GRP hold under the bench. Combined with 2x 50W, 2x 30W and 2x 110W PV's I'd put my shorepower cable far far awaySmile

Hi, I agree a very neat battery installation, but I was also impressed by your calibration of the fuel gauge shown on the photo of your switch panel. Can I ask is this based a a physical check as you refilled the tank?
Not that I have ever let it get that low but scary to think there is only 10 litres left when you hit the red! Did you also note the actual contents of the tank when it was full?

Many thanks

Hi Bob, yes, last autumn I almost 'drove' the tank empty and drained the remaining diesel, I cleaned the tank and filled it up with 5l at a time watching the gauge. I only use Neste My or as a 2nd choice GTL, both HVO fuel with 0 chance of bio fouling.
I didn't check 100% though...

Hi, thanks for the reply the calibration certainly makes more sense of the tank readings than 20/40/60/80/100%. I am afraid sailing in Greece we don’t yet have the fuel choice that you have, I just treat each fill with an additive.

Hi Coriolis,

did you measure the temperature of the generator?

I installed a set of 280 Ah LiFePo4.

Now the generator is heating up until more than 130°C!

As I expected this issue, so I installed the sterling A2B charger. It should cut off charging when the generator exceeds 90°C.

A request at the sterling support said: The A2B charger works properly, but it can not cut off the charging as long as the regulator of the generater itself works.

So I think the A2B charger ist useless and the only option to keep the generator alive is an external regulator, that keeps the charging current in a reasonable limit.

That results in a max of 60 Amps on the 115 A Mitsubishi generator. Cry
As the generators are developed for automotive use, they ar not able to charge with high output for longer terms.

Before I realized that, I hoped to get the Lithiums charged by generator in a very short time.

How did you manage the heat problem on your generator?

Thanks
Thomas

I recommend you look at the VRC-200 from nordkyndesign.com. It works very well with the Mitsubishi 115 A alternator.

Hi Thomas, I managed this issue by not connecting the generator at all Wink

But I was aware of this issue and I'm waiting for a Votronic B2B Charging Converter (VCC 1212-30) with a max output of 30 Amps (plus a circuit breaker!). However, the solar panels are keeping up the work and I'm using my electrical (2kW) water cooker and charging our two Fiido electrical foulding bikes every day during (long)weekend trips. In between the solars are topping up the batteries again.

The 400Ah battery with 260Wp solar was designed to keep the power up during longhaul 24-7 (solo) sailing trips. In that case I won't use the electrical water cooker but a JetBoil cooker for freeze dried food and tea. No cooler, No electrical steering but a windvane, but all navigition equipment running (instruments/plotter/radar/active radar antenna/AIS/VHF/(LED)nav lights).

Best regards, Rob

Very impressive! And a consequent solution.

Thank you.

Hi Thomas.
My Sterling AB130 has a tempsensor. But it needs to be placed correctly.
See this thread for troubleshooting.
