My 301 has 2 batteries on the port side under the aft double bunk.
There is nothing to tie them down to, and the auxillary(domestic) battery is too big to fit in the space. The central locker houses the exhaustn muffler, so no space there. The starboard locker has the fuel tank. Again no space for a battery. Perhaps a battery box in the corner of the aft berth next to the engine cowling could be fitted? I'm open to ideas!!

Hi, I used to have the same problem, although I had on port side the engine battery+aux battery, and then on stb side another aux battery in front of the fuel tank, so close to the kitchen wall. They were both 75AH lead-acid batteries that barely fitted the space (managed to find some Varta battery that fitted). This year replaced both aux batteries with LiFePo4 batteries (https://uk.litime.com/products/litime-12v-50ah-lifepo4-lithium-ion-battery) that fit easily, and have the same usable capacity as a 75 Ah lead-acid. Works perfectly.
EDIT: These were the old ones I had that barely fitted (https://www.hankkija.fi/tarvikkeet-ja-huolto/akut/ia-akku-12v-74ah-750a-silver-dynamic-e38-varta-2045391/). And naturally I still have one as starter battery Edited by Mergus - 20 May 2025 at 19:26 |

Hi All
This is the battery I used to replace the domestic one, 12V 110AH 110 AH SB HL400 Leisure Battery DEEP CYCLE Motorhome Caravan Campervan - ebay link, showing out of stock but available at loads of places .. 12V 110AH 110 AH SB HL400 Leisure Battery DEEP CYCLE Motorhome Caravan Campervan | eBay UK It was a low level one and fitted like a dream under the aft cabin berth, needed to move one of the wooden brackets I've got fitted to mine. The +ve and -ve terminals are in the correct for wiring on my setup. Hope that helps. Cheers Stu

Hi, Yes I found that having the domestic battery in the aft hatch a real pain, and when I got a slightly bigger battery it of course did not fit. I eneded up strapping it down next to the sink. This is what mine looks like. The webbing has been screwed to the bulkhead. This is awfully tatty and I have always meant to get around to putting a box over it, one day perhaps. ![]() Pete
