The fuel and water guages on my Hanse 588 are dangerously inaccurate. The fuel tanks read 60% & 70% on the DC panel when they are actually close to empty. Same with the water tank. Is it a problem with the probe, and will changing it help? Is there a more reliable method to read the tanks (electronic or physical)? Fitting a sight glass doesn't seem to be an option.

My 588 from 2018 has gauges that are very accurate. I wonder if your system is different or maybe the DC panel is not configured correctly. Either way you should be able to get accurate readings on those gauges.

Is this a Wurth panel on this boat? The water/fuel level wiring to Wurth LCD is easy to see, when you drop it down, it is on the left, I think white and blue and should be clearly marked. The voltage between the wires is 3V (or something, forgot) when tanks are full and scales down linearly when you empty the tanks. If the voltage readings are OK it is LCD problem. If not OK its likely resistance problem in the level sensors inside the tanks. I wired Victron tank 140 in parallel to those wires and hooked to Cerbo which allows to monitor the tanks levels based on those voltage readings and even program some non linearity (havent done that part yet)

I was going to ask whether this was a WURTH panel monitoring system or a newer 588 with the SIMARINE monitoring... I disconnected the WURTH panel monitoring and took the existing resistance based sensors from the fuel tanks and used them as inputs to an SIMARINE PICO monitoring display. No problem. To be fair to Hanse, the fuel tank sensors have not been a problem. On the fresh water tank and black water tanks I installed MARETRON ultrasonic sensors and hooked them to the PICO display. These were more accurate and less sensitive to debris. They are voltage based, but that wasn't a problem. All the producing, storing and consuming electrical components (alternator, generator, batteries, charger, etc.) are all hooked to the PICO display. In general you can tell if its a sensor problem just by hooking a meter
to the wire and looking at the values (ohms or volts). The only thing
that is remotely complex is to set the values which required me to fill
the tanks (say 10 gallons at a time) for calibration points on the PICO. ![]() ![]() |

PICO looks very nice
I was looking into some BlueSea battery montors as my battery banks keep growing(house, engine trusters bow and stern) but it appears this monitor can take care of everything

The technology is good, but the customer support leaves a lot to be desired. There is a SIMARINE PICO group on FACEBOOK. I would ask some of the people there for their opinion. HANSE now puts the PICO technology in their newer boats, and hopefully they get better support/attention. I can't speak for the other options, but my opinion is that the WURTH panel monitoring was next to useless and changing it to something else was not that difficult. |

I got rid of the crappy original Philippi gauges display and Calira water tank sensor (the one with 4 rods).
I offered myself a Cerbo GX and a new Wema water sensor (kept the original fueltank sensor). This set up is a huge improvement. Expansive but very accurate
