Dear forumites,

After 16 happy years owning a 400e, we've decided to downgrade, given the fact that normally we're only two and a dog on board. So we've bought a Nordship 35 which suits us perfectly for our sailing. I've enjoyed reading all your entries about all sorts of topics . and all your wise advice. This is truly a treasure trove of knowledge about our boats - and everything in themSmile

Fair winds and happy sailing to all of you!

Peter

Hi Peter
You may recall, that I bought your North Sails 140% Genoa some 15 years ago.

Since my wife is not as agile as before, I have to sail alone most of the time, so I am also considering downsizing my 400 to a smaller model. With 3 reefs in the main, a roll/reef genoa (15 years old) and a bowthruster I can stil manage solo-sailing, but maybe a smaller Hanse will suit me better. (Younger Hanse-owners with a smaller Hanse are welcome to send me a PM with suggestions of a possible exchange)....

On my 400 I have a decal, which is a copy of a coin from very old viking age. It shows the God of the Sea, Freyr with the Holy Horse. Freyr (and the Goddess of Love, Freya) are children of Njord, a Vane God of the winds. The text in runes "LaukaR" is a magic formula to protect the boat against danger.
The observant rune-reader will notice, that the last rune is "Algiz" ="z", which looks like the antlers of an elk. This, and the fact that the runes are upside down, and connected by a line, makes them magic runes, and the Algiz (Elk) rune is a token against all dangers. The decals for Freya cost me 40€ for 5 pieces.
-So now Freya is protected against all evil!

To assure pleasant winds for your new boat you may consider placing  a decal on the bow to please the ancient gods of Scandinavia. :-)

Hi Kjeld,

I do rememberSmile and I hope you have enjoyed using it. We're happy with our new somewhat smaller boat, so go for it!

Best regards
Peter
